Frequently Asked Questions
Funding
Yes. Support personnel costs are covered by the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) when the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist’s (SLP) license number is included on the invoice alongside the support personnel’s details.
Coverage varies by provider and policy. We advise contacting your insurance company directly to confirm whether speech and language therapy services are included in your plan. As the policyholder, it is your responsibility to verify coverage details.
We do not offer direct billing to insurance companies. However, we provide detailed receipts for our services, which you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Please check with your insurance company to confirm their reimbursement process and coverage details.
Yes, some insurance plans may cover parent training sessions under specific conditions. Here’s how it works:
Insurance Requirements: Coverage depends on your plan. Confirm with your provider if they accept parent training claims, as this is often categorized separately from child therapy.
Clinician Availability: Not all clinicians offer parent training. Ensure your therapist provides this service before scheduling.
Steps to Confirm Coverage
Contact Your Insurance: Ask if parent training for speech/language strategies is covered under your plan.
Verify Clinician Eligibility: Confirm your assigned clinician offers parent training services.
For more details, consult your insurance provider or discuss options with your clinician.
Cancellations
Direct Communication with Clinicians
To ensure efficient communication and minimize misunderstandings, we require that all cancellations and new or rescheduled appointments be coordinated directly with your assigned clinician. This means that both you and your clinician should have each other’s contact information for seamless communication.
Role of the Admin Team
Our administrative team supports the initial intake process. However, for ongoing appointments, we encourage families to work directly with their clinicians. This approach allows for quicker responses and more personalized scheduling.
Why Direct Communication Matters
By communicating directly with your clinician, you can avoid potential miscommunications that might lead to missed appointments or misunderstandings about cancellations. If a cancellation is not properly communicated and we miss it, resulting in a full charge, we would still need to compensate the clinician while not charging the family. To avoid such situations, direct communication is essential.
Best Practice
Save Your Clinician’s Contact Information: Ensure you have your clinician’s phone number or email for easy communication.
Communicate Cancellations Promptly: Inform your clinician as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
Confirm New Appointments: Always verify new or rescheduled appointments with your clinician to ensure they are correctly booked.
By following this process, we aim to provide a smoother experience for both families and clinicians. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Invoices
Payment Methods
We accept payments via credit card and e-transfer for your convenience.
Billing Schedule
Invoices are typically processed once a month. However, if you need access to your invoices sooner, you can log into our patient portal, Jane, to view them. Please note that while this option is available, invoices may occasionally contain errors. Our monthly billing process ensures accuracy and helps prevent discrepancies.
Best Practice for Payment
To avoid any delays or potential issues, we recommend paying immediately after each session using either e-transfer or credit card. This approach helps maintain a smooth financial process and ensures timely payment.
Misc
At our clinic, we have two types of professionals working together to help you: Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and support personnel (like Communicative Disorder Assistants). SLPs are highly trained with a Master’s degree and special licenses, allowing them to assess, diagnose, and create treatment plans for communication issues. They are like the doctors in our field. Support personnel, on the other hand, have a diploma, a bachelors degree and/or experience in speech studies and work under the supervision of an SLP. They help carry out the treatment plans designed by the SLP, similar to how nurses assist doctors or dental hygienists work with dentists. This teamwork ensures that you receive comprehensive care while keeping costs manageable. SLPs are always involved in the process to ensure that the care you receive is of the highest quality.
At our clinic, we provide personalized care with a dedicated clinician assigned to you or your loved one for consistency and trust. Whether you need speech therapy (for communication challenges) or ABA therapy (for behavioral and social skills), we offer:
1:1 Sessions: Focused, one-on-one time with your clinician to target specific goals.
Dyad Sessions: Paired sessions (e.g., two clients working together) to practice social skills or peer interactions.
Group Therapy: Small groups to build communication, teamwork, or behavioral skills in a supportive environment.
How It Works
Speech Therapy: Improve speech, language, or social communication through tailored activities.
ABA Therapy: Learn skills like managing emotions, following routines, or interacting with others using positive reinforcement.
Consistency: Your dedicated clinician ensures personalized strategies and progress tracking.
Flexible Scheduling
We prioritize your convenience with dedicated time slots and options for in-clinic, at-home, or community-based sessions.
